Water Main Repair

The public water supply system in Marshall serves the citizens and businesses in Marshall, three water districts and Malta Bend. The three water districts are Public Water Supply District #1 of Saline County (which serves Miami), Public Water Supply District #3 of Saline County, and Consolidated Public Water Supply District #2 of Johnson, Lafayette and Saline Counties (which serves Sweet Springs and Blackburn).

The mission of Water Distribution is to:

  1. Provide safe, quality drinking water in sufficient quantity to meet all customer needs; maintain water distribution and wastewater collection systems; using operating procedures and service maintenance methods to meet all federal and state requirements.
  2. Maintain water and collection systems' integrity.
  3. Plan and provide for water and collection system improvements and expansions necessary to meet the needs of our owners.

As of January 1st, 2001, the water distribution system consists of:

  • approximately 100 miles of ductile iron mains
  • 5,642 water meters
  • 709 fire hydrants
  • one elevated water tower
  • three water storage reservoirs
  • two pumping stations

MMU delivered 1.2 billion gallons of water to its customers in 2001. MMU also operates a backflow protection program.
