Unit 4

Unit 4 is a 6 MW steam turbine that was installed in 1957. This unit burns stoker coal or natural gas. Recently, it has also been permitted to burn a paper pellets/coal blend, made from recycled paper at our pellet facility. Proper startup on this unit requires 18 hours. We traditionally used this unit in the summer when the city's electric use was high over several days. We are now using it for 3-4 months per year to burn paper pellets. The turbine and generator had a major overhaul in 1996, which put it in excellent condition.
