"Providing Hometown Reliability"
Kyle Gibbs, Electric Production Director for Marshall Municipal Utilities, was awarded the Gary L. Whorton Personal Service Award at the October 5, 2006, Missouri Public Utility Alliance annual meeting. This award is for an employee of an Alliance system whose special public or community service has been a credit to municipally owned utilities. The award is to highlight personal service as an important element in a municipal utility’s public and community service and will single out individuals who, through civic organizations, professional societies, and/or leadership efforts, have made outstanding service contributions to his or her community or to the communities serviced by municipal utilities in general. The award was presented to Mr. Gibbs at the October 10, 2006, meeting of the Board of Public Works.
Mr. Gibbs was nominated by Marshall Municipal Utilities General Manager Paul Jensen. In his nomination, General Manager Jensen noted that Kyle is very active in Optimists International. He organizes baseball teams, drafts coaches, interfaces between parents and coaches, orders T-shirts, maintains baseball equipment, and umpires games. Kyle is a key player in the Optimist’s annual popcorn sales, ordering and picking up supplies, cooking, and maintaining equipment. Kyle also organizes a Student of the Month recognition, gives numerous tours of the power plant and recycling facility, and helps neighbors with maintenance of lawn mowers, cars and appliances.
Kyle has been employed by Marshall Municipal Utilities for 15 years. As Director of Electric Production, he has been responsible for operations and maintenance of Marshall’s power plant, which includes coal-fired steam turbines as well as diesel engines and a gas turbine. Kyle was instrumental in establishing a recycling facility that not only provides a place for residents to recycle, but also provides waste paper that is converted into paper pellets which are used as a fuel for generation of electricity. Kyle is a loyal employee and manager who well deserves recognition.
Board of Public Works President Mike Mills said, “Kyle reflects well on MMU through his community service work. We are very pleased with this much deserved recognition for Kyle.”
