Community Action Utility Sharing Effort
(CAUSE Fund)

Limited incomes can make it difficult to buy essentials like food or medicine, let alone the utilities to heat or cool a home. The CAUSE Fund was established to help families in need with their utility bill. You can donate to the CAUSE Fund simply by paying a little extra on your bill. There is a space provided on your bill to write in your donation amount.

Money donated to the CAUSE Fund is administered by the Missouri Valley Community Action Agency. To receive these funds, applicants must be a current MMU customer with a minimum service account record of 90 days. Also, two of the following criteria must apply:

  • Unemployed, and registered with local job service at least two weeks prior to application.
  • Medical emergency not covered by insurance or program applicant is enrolled in.
  • Children in the household under the age of 12 years.
  • Handicapped or disabled to the extent they are unable to be economically self-sufficient.
  • Income of household does not exceed 150% of poverty guidelines.

Applications can be picked up at the MMU office at 75 East Morgan, in Marshall, MO.
